Back at school.  Ready to get started working on projects.  Soul Of Athens Version 3.0 starts this week, as well as BOP Picture Editing going on on the Ohio University campus.  Here’s a dark, blurry nighttime shot from a house show last night.  There was a campfire, bands, and one hula hoop.  Hello Spring.

Leaving Toronto – Horse on Spadina Avenue

A little backfocused of a photo, but I guess that’s what you get with dirty windows. I was driving out of Toronto this morning and this horse (with police officer attached) road past my car. Sadly, it was not a Mountie.

Toronto – Street Scene

I’ve been up North for a few days visiting a friend and decompressing after a long, busy quarter; dusting off my camera that didn’t get enough love amidst books, papers and like. Spent this afternoon in Toronto’s Kensington Market, one of the more interesting, eclectic neighborhoods in town. Tomorrow I’m heading to the recently renovated Art Gallery of Ontario. The whole building’s been redone with a little help from renowned architect Frank Gehry . . . and apparently its free on Wednesday afternoons. Score.

Buck 65 – Blood of a Young Wolf

Posted in Uncategorized by johnnysimon on March 17, 2009

Buck 65’s a really unique DJ, hip-hop artist, country singer, a lot of things, certainly one of my favorite discoveries of the last year or so. And he’s a great way to start off my Tuesday. Got some exams. Got some essays. Almost got some spring break coming up. Note the maple leaf in the back. I’ll be heading to Toronto on Saturday to hang with one of my dearest friends, so hopefully I’ll send some pics I take up there around. Have a great week everyone.

14 Color Photos from the Great Depression

Goodness these are beautiful. No disrespect to black and white photographers, but looking at a color photograph of a subject that you’ve always known as black and white is thrilling and it makes me feel like I’m there. Please check these out, my jaw just about dropped.

Imperfect images

Posted in Uncategorized by johnnysimon on March 6, 2009

Some pictures from a film screening last night.  Band played afterward and things got crazy.  These are a few incomplete, imperfect images of the moment.  Pardon the focus or lack thereof.  Sometime its good to just throw out logic and make pictures with a little feeling.

Around the Corner

Corner of High St. and West Union St. in Athens, Ohio, on Tuesday afternoon.

I woke up on Monday to it being 6 degrees outside. It was 8 this morning. For all my friends to the North I’m sure that would be nothing to worry about, hell a year ago I was digging myself out of snow on a weekly basis. It seems like Monday and Tuesday were Old Man Winter giving us the last slap in the face because for the rest of the week temperatures are going up 10 degrees every day. Today, high of 33. Wednesday: 43. Thursday: 53. Friday and Saturday should hit 65. I’m ready to shed this coat, finish classes and hit the road.

Chandelier

Another picture from my living room.

We’ve acquired the most ridiculous thing ever and I love it.  The big silver blob in the foreground in our new chandelier that is handing from out ceiling.  To call it tacky would be an understatement, imagine a giant silvery jellyfish with 6 foot long tentacles.  I can’t say it makes our house any more beautiful, but it does add character.

That’s my roommate Jeff on the computer at the bottom of the frame.
